Korean Competition for Shorts
-
19 out of 748 films were selected as finalists for Korean Competition for Shorts. This year, critics including Byun Sung-chan, Song Hyojeong and Nam Daeun participated in judging for the preliminary. 16 feature films, 1 animation, 2 experiment/documentary films were selected, which shows an even distribution in terms of the form and style. 17
among 19 films in Korean Competition for Shorts will have world premiere.
The judges of preliminary round supported films which were meaningful in a similar trend. They selected films that showed a daring attempt not to simply focus on a particular trend or the current times or featured a distinctive style of director. They noticed there were many films dealing with ‘home’ as a physical or a psychological space used as a metaphor for a frivolous life conditions in our times. When it comes to expression, new factors such as an increase in drone shooting and use of creative music enriched short films.
There was 1 film selected through Local Cinema, which is firstly introduced to the 18th Jeonju IFF for discovering and supporting local films.
