Zahira, 18, is asked by her parents to follow Pakistani tradition to choose a husband. Torn between family customs and her western lifestyle, she turns for help to her brother and confidant Amir.

  • Review

An eighteen-year-old Pakistani girl named Zahira living in Belgium has to choose her future husband from the list of men provided by her parents in following the Pakistan tradition. Just as her friends Zahira also wishes to have a say in this but going against her stubborn parents is not easy and asks her brother Amir for help. A Wedding brings out the custom and marriage, being Pakistani in Europe in different aspects and traditional conflicts of Europe and the Middle East. It raises debate on one of the world’s issues of “immigration generation” and its adaptation and change. Director Stephan Streker does not make the dad into a bad protagonist or making Zahira the scapegoat?he lets them passionately and wisely face situations that they encounter. Just as the title, it is also being on a ‘wedding’ journey by embracing differences. [Lee Sang-yong]
