Tonsler Park takes place over the course of Election Day 2016 in the U.S., November 8th in Charlottesville, Virginia.

  • Review

An experimental filmmaker, Kevin Jerome Everson’s 16mm black and white film records the presidential election results between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton in Charlottesville, Virginia. Everson is an enthusiastic author who has created several short and feature length films that portray the life styles and cultures of African Americans and records statistics on the level of satisfaction in the African American community. What is the meaning behind the chosen location of ´Tonsler Park´? There are several possible guesses: the name ´Tonsler Park´ is derived from name of the African American principal, Benjamin Tonsler, who has taught African American students how to resist the racial segregation. The exploration of the location depicts a testimony of human rights history amongst African Americans. [JANG Byungwon]
