Filmmaker Fritz Lang seeks inspiration for his first sound film by immersing himself in the case of serial killer Peter Kurten.

  • Review

Fritz Lang, a world-renown director of Woman in the Moon and Metropolis, wants to create a sound film of his own. He is under heavy pressure from the world’s expectation and his wife, who is a screenwriter and Nazi sympathizer. He begins to investigate the case of Peter Kurten, a serial killer who shocked Germany. The investigation was a way to be away from his wife and to face his painful past of losing his lover. With the help from the police, Lang tracks down the serial killer. After interviewing him in the jail, Lang gets to finish the new scenario. Gordian Maugg, the director of Fritz Lang, boldly edits the scenes from M, the classic by Fritz Lang, in between the sequences of arresting and chasing Peter Kurten. With this editing, Maugg mixes fictional story with cinematic substantiality, inviting the viewers into the life of Fritz Lang. [LEE Sang-yong]
