  • Review

A series of crimes occur in Paris. The police ask Simon with supernatural powers for help. With his help, they arrest the culprit. As Simon’s talents are recognized, his rival, Peter, challenges him to be buried alive for three years. As Simon takes the challenge, rumors spread that he’s dead. His lover Jeanne leaves to find him. This story of supernatural powers, magic, love, and conflicts reveals the violence caused by misunderstanding and distortion. This officially select\ed film for the 1999 Locarno International Film Festival metaphorically reflects the bloodshed between Serbia and Yugoslavia and paradoxically shows that what we need in the violent reality and distorted communication are humans´ spiritual communion and magical ability. It is the way to reach others, overcoming the physical and corporeal limitations. [LEE Sang-yong]
